Useful Websites
A number of universities are now grappling with what it means to develop research-enhanced teaching and the scholarship of teaching within their own contexts. We have developed a coherent list of the institutions that have a focus on strengthening the relationship between research and teaching in all sorts of innovative ways - from undergraduate student research conferences to redeveloping curricula in order to focus on inquiry. We also link to the excellent work of many higher education and academic development professional associations:

The Australian Scholarship in Teaching Project: This site details a project whose intention is to develop and support university teachers in their scholarly practice and to communicate the scholarship of teaching widely throughout the Australian higher education community.The work has initially been carried out as a joint project involving four universities, RMIT University, University of Technology Sydney, La Trobe University and Griffith University and funded by The Committee for University Teaching and Staff Development.

- Program for Undergraduate Research Scholars: The program provides opportunities to introduce undergraduates to the research mission of the University. Students obtain academic credit for their participation as mentors to other students, or can work with staff or researchers to develop a form of inquiry. The website reports the University's rationale for the program and includes students' comments about their experiences.

- Undergraduate Research, The Reinvention Centre: Aims to integrate research-based learning into the undergraduate curriculum. The purpose is not simply to teach undergraduates research skills but to enable undergraduates to become integrated into the research cultures of their departments.

Key organisations, conferences and projects
- The Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning: A major initiative of the Carnegie Foundation, the CASTL project builds on the work of Ernest Boyer to develop the scholarship of teaching and learning across campuses. It has a program inviting academics to work on their teaching through an application to become a Carnegie Scholar. The site contains further reference to publications emanating from the program.

The Boyer Commission on Educating Undergraduates in the Research University
Reinventing Undergraduate Education: A Blueprint for America's Research Universities: This is a key US document giving a rationale for Undergraduate research, examples from a range of US institutions and Ten Ways to Change Undergraduate education. - The American Association for Higher Education and Institutional Strategies for the Scholarship of Teaching: The AAHE CASTL Campus Program supports institutions (and individuals) developing institutional policies for the scholarship of teaching , including teaching /research linkages . Provides valuable ideas and contacts for non US institutions including reports on institutional strategies.
- The Higher Education Academy (formerly Learning and Teaching Support Network), UK: The Higher Education Academcy is a UK initiative designed to support research into teaching at the subject level. It consists of 24 subject specific centres (eg. performance studies, health sciences, information and computer sciences etc), and a generic centre. A number of UK based universities are involved in the collaborative development of teaching and learning projects located within disciplines. Also see:
