2011 SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STAFF TO ATTEND CONFERENCES ON SOCIAL INCLUSION
14th PACIFIC RIM FIRST YEAR IN HIGHER EDUCATION (FYHE) CONFERENCE 2011: DESIGN FOR STUDENT SUCCESS
(28 June – 1 July, Fremantle, WA.)
The conference provides the opportunity to disseminate research and practice for enhancing the first year in higher education. Discussion on a wide range of subjects is encouraged and focuses on the following topics; institutional innovation and the FYHE, academic and professional partnerships for an enhanced FYHE, intentional FYHE to capstone experiences, assessing FY student learning, scaling up curricular and co-curricular approaches, strategies for supporting wider participation in HE and work integrated learning for FY students. The conference targets early career academics and professional staff keen to enhance their knowledge and engage in discussions about leading-edge FYHE practice and research, academic and professional leaders who are involved with or committed to enhancing the experience of commencing students through strategy, research and practice-based initiatives and equity practitioners in universities who are responsible for widening the participation of equity groups and supporting their transition into university study.

HERDSA 2011: HIGHER EDUCATION ON THE EDGE

The Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia conference theme 'Higher Education on the Edge' is chosen to reflect the edgy, uncertain and intellectually challenging times we face in higher education. As well as providing a forum for the voices of academic staff, researchers and professional who find themselves at the front lines of a rapidly diversifying education workforce, the 2011 conference encourages representation from colleagues in the vocational education and training sector, from schools and private providers, colleagues from business, industry and the private sector, institutional leaders, policy makers and students to consider what it means to engage with higher education on the edge. Five research domains support the theme: academic practice, work and identities, learning, teaching, assessment and curriculum, quality and standards in higher education, leadership, management, governance and policy in higher education and student pathways, experiences, expectations and outcomes.

EOPHEA CONFERENCE 2011: VOICES FOR EQUITY

The Equal Opportunity Practitioners in Higher Education Australasia (EOPHEA) conference provides opportunity to evaluate perspectives and research presented by prominent commentators as well as practitioners in the equity field and gain from valuable networking opportunities with other equity practitioners and related community groups. Conference themes include 'people of the land, people of the dreamtime, seize the day' (indigeneity), 'the connecting threads of the Pacific' (Pacific peoples), 'pay heed to the gender of women' (gender), 'stories of the rainbow people' (lesbian, gay bisexual, transgender), 'achieving equity' (disabilities), 'the changing world, a diverse world, an enlightened world' (emerging diversity).

1st INTERNATIONAL AUSTRALASIAN CONFERENCE ON ENABLING ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION

This conference has as its theme: 'Aspirations, Access, Attainment: Adding values & transforming lives through widening participation'. Students who undertake access/enabling education are richly diverse in terms of age and social, cultural, ethnic and educational backgrounds. Whilst their aspirations are frequently challenged by considerable socio-economic obstacles, government policies around widening participation, aimed at mitigating educational disadvantage are increasingly prominent. This conference invites delegates to exchange ideas, perspectives and experiences, whether as researchers, practitioners, policy makers or students.
