Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Higher Education)
The Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Higher Education) is a University degree offered through the Faculty of Education and Social Work and taught by the Institute for Teaching and Learning. It is designed for university teachers.
The Graduate Certificate is one of The University of Sydney's main teaching and learning professional development strategies.
The course aims to provide university teachers with opportunities to reflect on educational theory and student learning research from the perspective of their own teaching experiences through the scholarship of teaching and learning. It is designed to support staff in developing their professional expertise as university teachers in order to better understand and enhance the learning of their students.
The Graduate Certificate consists of four core (compulsory) units of part-time study over two semesters. The curriculum and teaching of the course is informed by a set of core principles.

Entry requirements
Entry requirements are that all intending participants in the course must:
- be engaged in university teaching in semester 1 in the year in which they enrol; and
- have completed the University's Principles and Practice of University Teaching and Learning program.
Course fees
Course fees for the Graduate Certificate are waived by the University for University of Sydney staff, provided staff have permanent residency/citizenship status. To avoid paying course fees you will need to provide certified copies of evidence of your employment at the University; this can include a copy of your staff ID card or a copy of your pay slip. Please note that there is no mid year intake.
Please note that staff who do not have permanent residency/citizenship are not entitled to a fee waiver for the Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Higher Education).
