This unit is one of two, second semester units offered as part of a Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Higher Education) by the Institute for Teaching and Learning through the Faculty of Education and Social Work. (The other second semester unit is EDPR5003 Research-enhanced teaching and learning.) The graduate certificate is specifically designed for university teachers seeking to develop a scholarly basis for their teaching practice and course participants must be concurrently engaged in some form of university teaching. The unit builds on and extends the work completed in the first semester (EDPR5001 University teaching and learning; and EDPR5002 Reflection and Practice in University Teaching and Learning). This unit of study aims to further develop participants’ ability to engage in inquiry or development designed to improve teaching and learning in their discipline. It draws on the literature of the discipline of higher education as well as scholarship and practice in participants ‘home’ disciplines. The unit also aims to further develop participants’ ability to communicate the outcomes of educational inquiries and development work in scholarly forums.
