This unit is one of two, second semester units offered as part of a Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Higher Education) by the Institute for Teaching and Learning through the Faculty of Education and Social Work. (The other second semester unit is EDPR5003 Research-enhanced teaching and learning.) The graduate certificate is specifically designed for university teachers seeking to develop a scholarly basis for their teaching practice and course participants must be concurrently engaged in some form of university teaching. The unit builds on and extends the work completed in the first semester (EDPR5001 University teaching and learning; and EDPR5002 Reflection and Practice in University Teaching and Learning). The unit aims to encourage participants to further reflect on and improve their own teaching based on an understanding of the literature of the discipline of higher education.

Participants in the unit will have the opportunity to explore, in more depth, a negotiated topic in higher education related to their professional activities as a university teacher. This focussed, scholarly inquiry into university teaching and learning will be structured around a negotiated authentic task, such as the preparation of a conference paper, journal article or grant application, drawing on the participant’s own research. The process of inquiry is supported by seminars, mentoring and peer review. This flexible unit of study can be adapted to meet the needs of individual participants. Please note that selection criteria may apply.
